Why it matters
A streaming calendar that puts a new Gintama film and a Kawara Reki anime adaptation in the same month shows Prime Video carrying the Japanese theatrical and television slate rather than only licensing back catalog.
The Gintama film streams from November 30, Demon's Crest from November 6, and the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from November 11. The lineup also covers Japanese and overseas films, NHK dramas, and a live baseball tournament.
The Gintama film adapts the Yoshiwara Enjo arc as an all-new production, following Sakata Gintoki and the Yorozuya as they take on the ruler of Yoshiwara, the Night King Hosen. Demon's Crest comes from Kawahara Reki, the author of Sword Art Online and Accel World, and is set in a mixed-reality world. Both sit alongside Prime Original titles, including the Rings of Power third season and Blade Runner 2099, and Japanese films and NHK dramas arriving through the month.
