Sony To Launch PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black In Japan On November 19

Sony Interactive Entertainment will release the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black Japan-Only on November 19 at a suggested retail price of 55,000 yen including tax. The console is a color variant of the existing PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Japan-Only, which launched in 2025, and swaps the white shell for an all-black finish on the console cover and bundled DualSense controller. Because it is the Digital Edition with no disc drive, playing packaged software requires a separately sold disc drive. Sony will ship a matching Disc Drive Midnight Black on the same day for 11,980 yen including tax. Preorders for both products begin October 20 at PlayStation retailers and e-commerce sites in Japan. The console can only be used with a PlayStation account whose console language is set to Japanese and whose Country/Region is set to Japan. Buyers who purchase an eligible PS5 and apply by March 31, 2027 get a manufacturer warranty extended from one year to two years.

Amazon has kicked off the advance sale for Prime Day 2026, and one of the featured deals is a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition bundle. That is 7 percent below the set's reference price of 63,000 yen, saving buyers more than 4,000 yen. The advance sale began at 0:00 on July 7, 2026, and runs through July 9. The main Prime Day event then follows from July 10 to July 13. The PS5 Digital Edition retains the console's core features: an ultra-high-speed SSD, 3D audio, backward compatibility with PlayStation 4 titles, and the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The PlayStation Store Tickets are prepaid codes that add credit to a user's account for digital purchases. The deal is available while stocks last, and Amazon notes that sale prices may end early due to limited quantities.
