Welcome to Elderfield is an indie horror RPG from developer Chris Cote, released on PC via Steam on September 10, 2026 at 2,250 yen with a 10 percent discount to 2,025 yen through September 25, 2026. It mixes a cozy farming loop with horror imagery: players farm crops including teeth and eyeballs, mine, cook, fish, investigate mysteries, romance residents, and fight Lovecraftian horrors in turn-based battles. The art is hand-drawn and reminiscent of Junji Ito's work, and the music is Lo-Fi, by composer Dated. Chris Cote is credited with combining humor, horror, and comfort.

Coverage so far splits between the release itself and how reviewers abroad have received it. The first story established the game's premise, price, discount window, and its mechanical range. Three days later, the second story reported a Metascore of 86 from 10 overseas reviews, with reviewers pointing to the mix of horror and cozy gameplay, the gloomy art, and the farming and town systems. The scores land high even from outlets that disagree on how well the two halves fit, which is the tension the reviews cluster around: a farming sim that borrows horror's imagery but keeps the cozy loop intact.

One practical gap remains. The game does not support Japanese as of the time of writing, and a Japanese-language release is not yet dated. Everything else about the launch is settled: platform, date, price, discount window, and the critical reception abroad.
