Aardman Pokémon Stop-Motion Series Gets Teaser, 2027 Disney+ Debut

The Pokémon franchise announced during the PokémonXP event on Friday that Disney+ will exclusively stream Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu, a stop-motion animated series made with Aardman, beginning in 2027. Disney XD will air the series on television. The announcement came with a teaser trailer on the official YouTube channels for the Pokémon franchise and Aardman.

The project is part of a wider Disney+ distribution deal with The Pokémon Company International that already put Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, the original Indigo League season, on the platform on August 7 with its first 27 episodes and on Disney XD.

Peter Lord, cofounder and creative director at Aardman, said the series takes place in a region "very close to our hearts." The teaser shows Wooloo and Sirfetch'd, Pokémon introduced in the Galar region of Pokémon Sword/Shield. Tom Parkinson directs, Natalie McKay is creative director, and James Young is creative lead.
