i☆Ris Voice Actress Idol Unit Will End Activities At End Of 2027

The i☆Ris voice actress idol unit announced on October 11 on its official website that it will end activities at the end of 2027, the year the group turns 15. The group said all five members and staff had held repeated discussions since last year about the unit's future direction and each member's own future before reaching the decision. A staff statement and comments from each member appear on the official website. Leader Saki Yamakita said 15 years is a very long time for a female idol group and that many people will surely feel down, adding that she is filled with even more gratitude and wants to run to the last day with the fans. The five members are Saki Yamakita, Yu Serizawa, Himika Akaneya, Yuki Wakai, and Miyu Kubota. The group formed in July 2012 from six winners of the avex and 81 Produce AniSon Vocal Audition and released the debut single "Color" that November. A 14th anniversary live is set for November 3 at Yokohama Arena.

All original six members voiced the main cast of the 2014 PriPara television anime, and the unit went on to sing the successive opening themes for the franchise, including Idol Time PriPara. The group's other theme songs include Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live, Mushibugyo, Fantasista Stella, Hantsu x Trash, Twin Star Exorcists, Akiba's Trip: The Animation, Magical Girl Site, Wise Man's Grandchild, Magical Sempai, and the more recent dodgeball anime Hono no Tokyojo: Dodge Danko.

Former member Azuki Shibuya left the group on March 31, 2021, which is why the current lineup is five. The unit won the Singing Award at the 10th Annual Seiyu Awards in March 2016 and held its first concert at Nippon Budokan that November.

The i☆Ris the Movie -Full Energy!!- anime film premiered in Japan in May 2024. The Live & Documentary Movie ~i☆Ris on STAGE~ documentary film opened in September of the same year. Both films were part of the unit's 10th anniversary celebration. The group also inspired a webcomic tentatively titled Shukan i☆Ris in 2016.

Yamakita closed her comment with the unit's catchphrase, saying she wants to run through to the very last day with everyone who has supported them "in a fun-fun-farm way."
