K Manga Adds Ema Toyama's A Thousand Years Behind the Veil

Kodansha's K Manga platform added Ema Toyama's fantasy romance manga A Thousand Years Behind the Veil (Sen-nen no Hanayome) to its English-language lineup on Thursday. The manga, which launched in May 2025 in the inaugural issue of Kodansha's josei digital magazine ARTEMIS by sirius, follows Chitose, the youngest daughter of the Totsuki clan. After her older sister Kuon curses her, Chitose is transformed into an old woman and endures abuse until a mysterious man named Kotaro appears and offers to grant her wish. Kodansha published the manga's third compiled volume in Japan on Friday. The English translation is by Florin E, with lettering by Chris Burgener and editing by Sam Saphr. Toyama is known for previous works including Vampire Dormitory, which inspired a 2024 television anime, and the long-running Missions of Love. K Manga also added Aika and Meshiko Iida's The Tale of How My Cheap, Stingy Sister-in-Law Lost It All in the same announcement.

K Manga announced the addition on Thursday through its official X/Twitter account. The platform also added Aika and Meshiko Iida's The Tale of How My Cheap, Stingy Sister-in-Law Lost It All in the same update. That manga is translated by Melissa Goldberg, with lettering by Kyle Ziolko and editing by Madeleine Jose. It launched in Kodansha's Palcy app in December 2023 and also runs in the ARTEMIS by sirius magazine.

Toyama's other recent work includes Mahō Renshūsei Riri Raspberry, which began in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine in October 2025. She also launched Sare Koi: Saikaishita Moto Kare in Shogakukan's Betsucomi Flower digital magazine in November 2024, where it continues. Her Vampire Dormitory manga ended in June 2024 after a two-part run that began in November 2018; it inspired a television anime that premiered in April 2024 on Crunchyroll. Toyama's earlier Missions of Love ran in Nakayoshi from 2009 to 2015 and received a sequel arc in 2018. Kodansha USA Publishing released both series in English.

Additional Toyama titles published in English by Kodansha USA include I Guess I Became the Mother of the Great Demon King's 10 Children, Aoba-kun's Confessions, Manga Dogs, I Am Here!, and Shugo Chara-chan! Tokyopop previously released her Pixie Pop: Gokkun Pucho manga. Toyama's ongoing Majo Maid wa Joō no Himitsu o Shitteiru runs in Nakayoshi since December 2022.
