Screaming Mad George, the special effects artist and director of the 1991 live-action The Guyver film, died on February 10 at age 69. His manager announced the news on Monday. He was known for effects work on Predator, Big Trouble in Little China, and the Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, and collaborated often with director Brian Yuzna.

Screaming Mad George, born Joji Tani, began as a punk rock musician with the band The Mad, creating gory music videos and stage acts before moving to New York to study visual arts. His film effects credits include Predator, Big Trouble in Little China, and Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and 4.

He started collaborating with Brian Yuzna on the 1989 film Society, leading to work on Silent Night, Deadly Night 4, Bride of Re-Animator, The Dentist 2, and Faust: Love of the Damned. His directorial debut was The Guyver, the 1991 live-action adaptation of Yoshiki Takaya's manga, produced by Yuzna.

He also did effects for Tokyo: The Last War and designed the Cherubim monster in the Spirit Warrior OVA. He is credited as co-translator of Hideshi Hino's Panorama of Hell. He is survived by his wife Miki and daughter Alice.
