Sixth Midnight Diner Series Sets Returning Cast And October 20 Debut
The production keeps the ensemble and the directing roster that carried the Netflix-era installments, so the franchise's continuity now rests on the same returning staff rather than a rebuild.

The sixth live-action series based on Yaro Abe's Shinya Shokudo manga has confirmed its returning cast and an October 20 premiere on MBS, TBS and other Japanese channels. Kaoru Kobayashi returns as Master, with Mansaku Fuwa, Toshiki Ayata, Tamae Ando, Joe Odagiri and others back as cafeteria regulars. Joji Matsuoka, Nobuhiro Yamashita and Shotaro Kobayashi return to direct, joined by Satoko Yokohama and Ryo Yoshida.
Kaoru Kobayashi returns as Master, the role he also played in the two live-action films adapted from the manga. The series keeps the setup Abe's manga established: a small cafeteria in Shinjuku that opens at midnight and cooks whatever a customer asks for.
Katsuhiko Manabe, Kosuke Mukai, Kensaku Kojima and Marina Oshima are writing the scripts. Netflix streamed the fifth live-action series in October 2019, and the fourth ran on the service as Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories in 2016. A Chinese live-action film adaptation opened in China in 2019.
