A Minecraft Movie Squared Is the Title of the Minecraft Sequel, Kirsten Dunst Cast as Alex
During the Minecraft Live May 2026 broadcast, the official title for the sequel to A Minecraft Movie was announced as A Minecraft Movie Squared. The film is set for a US theatrical release on July 23, 2027. Returning cast members include Jack Black as Steve, Jason Momoa as Garrett, and Danielle Brooks as Dawn. New to the sequel is Kirsten Dunst, who will play the character Alex, a casting previously reported by Deadline in March 2026. Matt Berry, who voiced the character Nittwit in the first film, will appear as an undisclosed new character. The broadcast offered a brief look at the production, which is again being filmed in New Zealand.
