Video Research's Kanto region ratings for July 20-26 place Sazae-san at the top with a 7.5% household rating, followed by Detective Conan at 5.4% and Chibi Maruko-chan at 4.6%. The list includes rebroadcasts and new episodes across major networks.
Video Research released Japanese animation TV rankings for July 13-19, 2026. Sazae-san topped the list with a 5.9% household rating in the Kanto region. Detective Conan and Chibi Maruko-chan followed at 4.6% and 4.2% respectively. A Kingdom special earned 7.0% but was not part of the regular animation chart.
The anime for Yōsuke Kaneda's manga The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch released a third promotional video on Monday, announcing Akari Nanawo's new opening theme "∞Rettō-Sei" for the second cour. Comedian Attack Nishimoto joins the cast as Ursa Minor, a Virgo Magic student appearing in episode 13.
Anime Feminist reviewed the first episode of The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch. The review finds the premiere uncomfortable, citing frequent upskirting, a friend who sexually harasses the lead, and a scene where Spica offers her body in exchange for magic. The reviewer says the comedy relies on sexual stunners instead of the weird magic that could make the show distinct. A late sequence where Spica proves herself does not salvage the episode.
