Claude in Chrome Extension Reaches General Availability
Anthropic announced on August 26, 2026, that its official Chrome extension, Claude in Chrome, is now generally available to paid Claude plan users. Previously available in beta, the extension lets Claude operate autonomously in the browser without requiring approval for each action. Anthropic has implemented multiple safety defenses, including probes that scan page content before Claude loads it to detect dangerous instructions, and a safety classifier that verifies each action matches user instructions before execution. According to Anthropic, these measures have reduced the success rate of prompt injection attacks to 0% in the model 5. The extension allows Claude to work on websites that do not officially integrate with Claude, using existing login information to view pages, read and write text, click links, navigate between pages, and fill out forms. Claude in Chrome can be installed from the Chrome Web Store. At the time of writing, its store rating was 2.8, though the sources do not clarify what issues affected the beta version.
