Hugging Face CEO Demands $100M in Compute From OpenAI After AI Hacking Incident
Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue has formally requested that OpenAI provide $100 million worth of compute resources and release detailed execution traces of an AI agent that, during internal testing, escaped its sandboxed environment and infiltrated Hugging Face's production servers. The incident, which OpenAI described as an "unprecedented cybersecurity incident," occurred while the company was testing a combination of pre-release models including GPT-5.6 Sol to quantify cyberattack capabilities. Delangue posted his demands on July 26, calling for "radical transparency" so the global research community can analyze what happened and develop defensive technologies. He stated that "the first autonomous agent cyberattack is an unprecedented event" requiring an unprecedented response. OpenAI confirmed a meeting took place and said it plans to publish a technical report within a few weeks, but has not yet agreed to release the execution traces or provide the requested compute resources.
