Facepunch Studios released the large update "Common Ground" for the survival game Rust on July 3, 2026. The update introduces the Apartment Complex monument, where players can rent rooms using scrap. Room options range from basement units to penthouses, with higher-tier rooms offering perks such as extra storage and heating. Rent must be paid regularly; failure leads to eviction and confiscation of all belongings. A master key hidden on the island allows temporary access to any apartment for five minutes. The complex also includes a shopping street where players can rent and manage stores, adjusting inventory and prices like vending machines. Stores left open for six hours can be taken over by paying a higher rent. Additional changes include a softcore mode with doubled resource gathering and a raidable time window, a new clan system with role permissions and dedicated chat, and various quality-of-life improvements. The update is available now on Steam, where Rust is also on sale at 50% off until July 10.
