Joe Hisaishi Receives 3 Guinness World Records for Concert Runs
Composer Joe Hisaishi reported on Tuesday that he has received three Guinness World Records for his concert performances at major venues in Japan and the United States. The records recognize the most tickets sold by a classical composer at the Tokyo Dome in a single run, the highest-selling classical run at the Hollywood Bowl, and the longest residency by a classical composer at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in a single run. Hisaishi's Studio Ghibli Film Concert Tour Final at Tokyo Dome set the first record, while his 2026 Joe Hisaishi Cinema Music Concert tour included three performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. His seven consecutive concerts at Radio City Music Hall concluded on August 17, securing the third record. Hisaishi has composed scores for Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli features since 1984's Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind, and also scored Isao Takahata's 2013 film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. He received the Order of the Rising Sun Award, Gold Rays with Rosette from the Japanese government in November 2023.
