Fake Meccha Chameleon Smartphone Ads Appear on YouTube

YouTube is hosting short ads that present a smartphone version of the hide-and-seek game Meccha Chameleon as if it exists, even though no official mobile release has been announced. The ads show gameplay footage with a voiceover asking viewers if they knew about a smartphone version, then urge them to click a link below the video to play for free or download immediately. The background music appears to be taken without permission from Nintendo's Wii Party. Developer Remorion stated on July 27 that only the PC version is on sale, and no official smartphone version has been released as of this writing. The ads are the latest in a series of fakes tied to the game's popularity. In June, a fake SNS account posing as official appeared, prompting Remorion to warn that only his own account and Haganeiro's are legitimate. In July, a Meta Quest store page for Meccha Chameleon VR used nearly identical title and screenshots from the original, and Remorion said he gave no permission for it and urged people not to buy it. The game remains available on Steam for PC.
