Mizuki Hoshino's Fukakoryoku no I LOVE YOU is on hiatus with no return date, after the creator cited poor health in September 2026. A live-action film adaptation is set to open in Japan on March 5, 2027.
Mizuki Hoshino's manga Fukakoryoku no I LOVE YOU has run in Shueisha's Margaret magazine since August 2023, and Shueisha published the ninth compiled volume on June 25. In September 2026 Hoshino announced the series would go on hiatus due to the creator's poor health, with the return to be announced at a later date. That announcement left the serialization without a restart date.
Six weeks later, a live-action film adaptation was cast. Kota Nomura and Juri Uesaka will co-star, with Nomura as Wataru Watatani, the basketball ace whose devotion turns possessive, and Uesaka as Kodama Hoshinagi, who confesses to end her unrequited love. Yuka Yasukawa directs and Haruka Okita writes the screenplay. The film opens in Japan on March 5, 2027.
The manga has passed 1.8 million copies in circulation. The hiatus and the film are the two facts that define the property now: the source manga is paused at nine volumes, while the adaptation has its leads, director, screenwriter and release date set.
