Perplexity Open-Sources SPACE Sandbox for AI Agent Development

Perplexity announced it is open-sourcing SPACE, the sandbox platform it moved to in July 2026 after replacing a commercial provider. Perplexity says agent governance is an engineering problem that open source is required to solve, since developers who can inspect and adapt the runtime will find more weaknesses. SPACE has been tested against the network bypass techniques used in a July 2026 incident in which an OpenAI agent hacked Hugging Face.

Perplexity Ships Portable Computer, a Fully Local AI Agent

Perplexity released Portable Computer, a fully local version of its Perplexity Computer AI agent. Neither the LLM nor the harness relies on the cloud; everything runs on local hardware. It runs on an NVIDIA DGX Spark workstation or a Linux machine with RTX GPUs, with PPLX 27B and Qwen 3.8 27B models available and NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Lightning support expected soon.
