Independent developer Shige announced DIEVER, a PC dungeon crawler set in the deep sea, and opened its Steam store page. Players manage oxygen and water pressure alongside HP while diving deeper, facing Lovecraftian enemies in deliberate combat. Over 90 equipment types allow varied builds, and deeper dives blur the line between equipment and body. Release date is undecided.
Game Freak's official YouTube channel released the second part of a development story video for Poko A Pokemon on August 7. Concept and senior director Shigeru Ohmori discusses the game's world and special Pokemon, including an early prototype trailer that helped establish the visual direction.
NBCUniversal Japan revealed a fourth promotional video for the second season of the From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman anime, along with two new cast members. Kensho Ono plays Warren Flumvelk and Sumire Uesaka plays Shueste Flumvelk. The season premiered in Japan on July 8 and streams worldwide on Amazon Prime Video.
NHK will air an anime special based on Shigeru Mizuki's World War II manga "White Flag" as part of its NHK Special documentary program on Sunday, August 16. The special, titled "The White Flag at Iwo Jima," adapts Mizuki's story about a lieutenant who surrenders to save his troops and is executed for treason. The documentary will also present research on American and Japanese reports of a surrender at Iwo Jima.
Pia Corporation released Mobile Police Patlabor: Shibashigeo Pia on August 5 to commemorate Mobile Police Patlabor EZY. The book focuses on Shibashigeo, with interviews with voice actor Shigeru Chiba and director Yutaka Izubuchi, plus a new cover by Akemi Takada. It includes bonuses like an A3 poster and postcards.
Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the 35th anniversary festival "Glory Winners" for the Future GPX Cyber Formula series, scheduled for January 9, 2027, at Misato City Cultural Hall in Saitama. The event will feature daytime and evening sessions with cast members Junichi Kanemaru, Kotono Mitsuishi, Sho Hayami, and Toshihiko Seki, plus session-specific guests. Theme song artists Hironobu Kageyama, Aki Misato, and Dynamite Shige will perform live. Tickets cost 9,800 yen for all reserved seats, with the fastest advance reservation period running from August 5 at 5:00 PM to August 23 at 11:59 PM. The one-shot manga The Last Terran by Hiroshi Takashige and Tatsumi Hitomoji will launch as a series in the September issue of Monthly Young Magazine on August 20. It is one of four additional works chosen for serialization after the success of the Young Magazine US English issue, alongside To Dusk and Twilight, Boys Run the Riot -In Transition-, and Protocol Ryugu.
The General Incorporated Association EMS will hold EMS DAYS 2026 on September 12-13, 2026, in Tokyo and online. The theme is 'Then, what about humans,' a response to the rise of generative AI. Pia Co., Ltd. will release "Mobile Police Patlabor Shiba Shigeo Pia" on August 5, 2026, a dedicated fan magazine for the character from the new theatrical anime "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY." The A4, 96-page all-color volume includes an exclusive cover illustration by Akemi Takada, bonus postcards, an A3 poster of famous scenes and quotes, and interviews with voice actor Shigeru Chiba and director Yutaka Izubuchi. To mark the release, the previously out-of-print "Izumi Noa Pia" and "Goto Kiichi Pia" will return as e-books.
Square Enix has released the digital version of Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishou~, a novel by Kazushige Nojima that continues the story after Final Fantasy X-2. The book follows Yuna and Tidus on a new adventure in Spira and is available at e-book stores for 1,540 yen.
Amazon's Manga Weekend Sale offers a 50% point-back on all 48 volumes of Shuichi Shigeno's car manga Initial D, limited to June 26-28, 2026. The final chapter of the HiGH&LOW film series, "HiGH&LOW THE New World," was announced on June 24 at a 10th anniversary event in Tokyo. HIRO, the series' planner and producer, surprised attendees with a teaser video and confirmed the film will release in 2027. The story takes place several years after the 2017 film "HiGH&LOW THE MOVIE 3 / FINAL MISSION." Returning cast members include AKIRA as Kohaku, NAOTO as Jesse, and Alan Shirahama as Bernie, all reprising roles after nine years. Kazuma Kawamura and Hokuto Yoshino also join the cast. Directors Norihisa Hiranuma and Motoaki Kuba are helming the project. Hiranuma stated that the film will feature overseas artists and cast members. The teaser video, now on YouTube, shows hand-to-hand combat and armed groups, suggesting a harsher world. The series has drawn 6.21 million cumulative viewers and earned 8.9 billion yen at the box office. A live event, "HiGH&LOW 10th ANNIVERSARY FEVER," will be held at K-Arena Yokohama on September 22 and 23, featuring LDH artists including EXILE THE SECOND and THE RAMPAGE.

Atlus announced on June 8 that the Persona series has sold over 30 million copies globally. Character designer Shigenori Soejima shared a new illustration of the Persona 4 protagonist. Good Smile Company is releasing a plastic model kit of Tauburn from the 2010 anime Star Driver: The Radiant Takuto. The kit is the first plastic model of the Cybody and is being produced under the full supervision of its original designer, Shigeto Koyama. Further details are pending from the official account.
Shigemitsu Harada and Takumi Kobayashi will launch a new manga titled Ijime to Kaeru to Mama to Fukushū on Kodansha's YanMaga Web platform on June 18. The story follows Makoto, a factory worker who finds comfort with his childhood bully's mother, who then makes a shocking proposal when the bully returns to town.
The television anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) announced five new cast members on Sunday, May 31. Yū Shimamura will voice Natsuki Kurotani, and Hayato Fujii will play Fuyuki Kurotani. Ayumu Murase joins as Blacklist. Ako Mayama and Shigeru Chiba will voice the dual role of Tenaga Ashinaga (Long Arms Long Legs), debuting in the anime's 10th episode on June 6. The anime premiered on April 4 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels, and is set for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll streams the series with a same-day English dub. Bones Film produces the anime, with Masahiro Andō directing, Noboru Takagi handling series scripts, and Nobuhiro Arai designing characters. Kenichiro Suehiro composes the music. Vaundy performs the opening theme "Tobu Toki" (Time to Fly), and singer yama performs the ending theme "Tobō yo" (Let's Fly). Arakawa launched the manga in Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021; the 13th volume ships July 10.
The live-action Legend of Zelda film will now open worldwide on April 30, 2027. Nintendo Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto announced the change on Wednesday through the company's social media accounts. The new date moves the premiere one week earlier than the previously scheduled May 7, 2027 release. That May date was itself a delay from the film's original March 26, 2027 target. Miyamoto said the team is working to deliver the film as soon as possible and noted there is less than a year until release. Wes Ball directs the project. Derek Connolly wrote the script. Bo Bragason stars as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars as Link. Nintendo is financing more than half the production. Sony Pictures Entertainment is co-financing and will handle theatrical distribution. Miyamoto produces alongside Avi Arad of Arad Productions. The adaptation arrives after the commercial success of Nintendo's animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, which crossed one billion dollars worldwide in 2023. A sequel to that film premiered in April 2026.
