SMP Power Animal Series Extra is a Bandai Candy Division candy toy model kit line that turns Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger Power Animals into kits, with the first set based on original 2002 design drawings. In 2026 the line ties into a wider SMP Gaoranger and anniversary push that includes Storage Collection 02 in August and a fan-voted reprint of a past Super Minipla kit for February 2027.
Bandai Candy Division opened the SMP Power Animal Series Extra line with five Power Animals from Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger, built from original design drawings from 2002. The kits include combination gimmicks that work with existing GaoKing kits, giving physical form to creatures that until now existed only as names in the 2001 series.
Days later, the same Gaoranger thread widened. SMP Storage Collection 02 added GaoKing, GaoHunter, and GaoMuscle in two color variants each, six kits total, with a release date of August 24, 2026 and a price of 990 yen. The set marks an expansion of the Storage Collection format, which had previously shipped a first installment.
In August 2026, Bandai also discussed a different corner of the SMP catalog. Developers Keisuke Iida and Yohei Nagasawa told Dengeki Hobby Web about the SMP Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon AAP07: Balteus kit, explaining why Balteus was chosen as the first unit for that crossover and how the team approached the 156-tube missile launcher. The interview shows the line extending into game-based mecha alongside its sentai releases.
By October 2026, Bandai turned to the line's back catalog. The company scheduled a reprint of Super Minipla Ninja Gattai Muteki Shogun, the combining robot from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, after it placed first in a fan vote held for the line's 10th anniversary. Reservations opened on Premium Bandai on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 13:00 at 6,930 yen, with shipping set for February 2027.
