First Remake of Touhou Koumakyou Announced for September 2026 Release
Alliance Arts announced the first remake of the Touhou Project title "Touhou Koumakyou" during the Nintendo Direct broadcast on June 9, 2026. The new version, titled "Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.", is scheduled for release on September 10, 2026, for PC and Nintendo Switch. The remake will feature newly arranged BGM tracks alongside a Classic mode that faithfully reproduces the original 2002 bullet hell shooting game. The original "Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil." was released in 2002 and is a foundational entry in the long-running Touhou Project series, which is known for its challenging danmaku gameplay and extensive fan community. The announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct 2026.6.9 presentation.
