Mewgenics Adds Official Japanese Support Ahead of September 8 Console Launch
Mewgenics, the cat-breeding roguelike tactical RPG from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, added official Japanese display support in an update distributed on September 6 and 7, 2026. The same update adds Korean, Russian, and Simplified Chinese, following a beta period during which the translation was tested. The game, released on Steam on February 11, 2026, sold 1 million copies within its first week and holds a Metacritic score of 88, down from 90 at launch. Steam user reviews sit at 89 percent positive across roughly 50,000 entries. The console version launches September 8, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with Steam account linking for save data transfer on all three platforms. The Switch 2 version supports Joy-Con 2 mouse and touchscreen controls, while the PS5 version uses the DualSense touchpad. The developers also confirmed a small free update adding new play styles and unlockable items, plus the game's first DLC, with details promised later this year.
