Screenwriter So Kuramoto Dies at 91
The foundation Kuramoto So Kaiwai announced that screenwriter So Kuramoto died on September 18 from multiple organ failure. He was 91. A private funeral with close relatives took place, and a memorial service is set for November 3 at the Furano Theatre Factory in Hokkaido. Born Kaoru Yamaya in Tokyo in 1935, he joined Nippon Broadcasting System in 1959 after graduating from the University of Tokyo, went independent in 1963, and took the pen name So Kuramoto. His drama credits include the original story of the 1975 series Zenryaku Ofukuro-sama, the screenplay of the 1980 series Sayonara Oryu-san, and the original story and screenplay of Kita no Kuni kara, which aired from 1981 to 1982. In anime, he wrote the script for the 1964 series Zero-sen Hayato with Akira Kono and Tomio Sagisu.
