The Anime Times official YouTube channel has put all 48 episodes of The Ancient Magus' Bride Seasons 1 and 2 online for free, with the run limited to 17:59 on November 22. The series adapts Kore Yamazaki's manga, which is serialized on the web manga site Comic Growl. Season 1 aired in 2017 and The Ancient Magus' Bride SEASON2 followed in 2023. The story centers on Chise Hatori, a 15-year-old girl born with special powers who has no place to return to and no reason to live. Elias, a magician in a non-human form, takes her in as his apprentice and as his future bride, and the show follows how the two build a relationship as Chise comes into contact with the lives of magicians and regains what matters to her. Spin-off works including The Ancient Magus' Bride: Psalm 108 - The Blue of the Magician and Psalm 75 - Lightning Jack and the Fairy Incident are also in development.
The free upload arrives with the manga still running on Comic Growl, and with two spin-off titles, The Ancient Magus' Bride: Psalm 108 - The Blue of the Magician and Psalm 75 - Lightning Jack and the Fairy Incident, in development alongside the main story. The arrangement between the two seasons is tidy: the 2017 first season and the 2023 season sit on the same channel for the same limited period.
What the show asks of a viewer is a slow one. Chise Hatori is 15 and enters the story with special powers and no place to return to and no reason to live. Elias, non-human in form, takes her on as apprentice and as future bride, and the series tracks how the pair build a relationship while Chise comes into contact with the lives of magicians and recovers what matters to her. The episodes are available through 17:59 on November 22, after which the free window closes.
