The game's development shows a doujin team repeatedly discarding systems that felt unplayable or derivative, ending on a keyboard-only design that players reportedly recognize as distinct from Groove Coaster.

Witch's Lounge Rhythm Game Redesigns Around Keyboard Input

Korean doujin team Wolsang Studio showed Witch's Lounge at BIC2026. The rhythm game has players draw magic circles by moving a witch in eight directions with WASD keys and pressing Space for notes. The team leader said the game started as a mouse-based title that proved too difficult, then became too similar to Groove Coaster before settling on its current style.

Wolsang Studio, an 18-person Korean doujin circle, brought a playable demo of Witch's Lounge to BIC2026. The rhythm game casts the player as a witch drawing magic circles by moving in eight directions with WASD keys, holding or pressing Space for notes, and combining both for simultaneous inputs.

Team leader Park Ji-seop told 4Gamer the project went through several identities. It began as a casual game in the vein of Vampire Survivors, then a rhythm-based survivor title that came too close to Crypt of the NecroDancer, then a mouse-and-keyboard rhythm game that was too hard for anyone to play. The current keyboard-only format emerged after a prototype that resembled Groove Coaster too closely.

The full game will add customer-specific stories and unlock songs as the player grows the shop. The demo covers only the prologue.
