Atooi Brings Dementium II to Steam as the Version It Was Meant to Be
The release is a rights-recovery story as much as a port: the original developer now controls its own HD release and has rebuilt it to its intended form rather than shipping the 2013 version again.
Reporting from 1 source: Game Spark.
Atooi has released Dementium II on Steam for 1,900 yen, a PC version restored by the original production team. The 2010 Nintendo DS survival horror FPS had a 2013 PC release as Dementium II HD by Memetic Games, which drew a mixed reception. Jools Watsham, co-founder of original developer Renegade Kid and now head of Atooi, regained the rights to that HD version and said it was not the game's true form.
The Steam build folds the DS version's two screens onto one, adding an on-screen minimap. Players can pick sharp visuals up to 4K or intentionally lower the resolution to keep the original pixel feel, and choose between a modern flashlight style and a light expression closer to the DS release.
The audio warning that announced approaching enemies in the original can be switched off, leaving no cue that something is near. Controls support controller or mouse and keyboard, Steam Deck is fully supported, and Steam Achievements are included. A 50% off sale on the previous game, Dementium: The Ward, runs until October 31, and a two-game Dementium Collection bundle is available.
