BookLive To Sell Touhou Project Fan Comics As Commercial E-Books
Doujin distribution has usually run on event sales and creator-run shops, so an authorized commercial channel with BookLive handling licensing payments to Team Shanghai Alice rewrites who carries the paperwork and the money.

BookLive announced on October 1 that its Crossfolio Publishing service will distribute Touhou Project derivative fan comics as commercial e-books with the approval of original creator Team Shanghai Alice. Submissions opened the same day and cover book-format works including comics, illustration collections, novels, picture books, and photo books. Creators receive up to a 75 percent royalty rate, raised to 80 percent for the first year on works registered by November 3.
Crossfolio Publishing handles all rights processing for the accepted works, including payment of licensing fees to Team Shanghai Alice, on a consolidated basis. That covers the part of commercializing derivative work that circles usually have to sort out themselves.
BookLive frames the move as connecting Touhou derivative culture with electronic publishing. Works without digital manuscripts can also be submitted. The company says it will widen the eligible works and participating circles under Team Shanghai Alice's approval, with the distribution start date and lineup to be announced once decided.
