Why it matters
The broadcast puts the closing chapter of the New Translation Z trilogy, Tomino's 2006 theatrical reworking of Z Gundam, back on a national satellite channel's regular anime slot, sitting alongside the television series it condenses.
The film is the theatrical version of Mobile Suit Z Gundam and the concluding chapter of the New Translation Z trilogy. Yoshiyuki Tomino is credited as original creator, screenwriter, storyboarder, and general director.
The film was released in theaters in 2006 as the third and final part of the New Translation Z trilogy, a theatrical recut of the Mobile Suit Z Gundam television series. Its story ends the three-way fight for control of the Earth Sphere, with the AEUG under Quattro, the Titans under Paptimus Scirocco, and Haman Karn's Axis forces converging over the colony Gryps 2.
The broadcast slot is Sunday Anime Theater on BS12 TwellV, which airs the film at 19:00. Sunrise handled planning and production, Shochiku distributed the film, and Gackt is credited for the theme song.
