Hideki Arai's SPUNK! Manga Gets Live-Action Film From Keisuke Yoshida

Hideki Arai announced Thursday that his SPUNK! manga will get a live-action film next fall, written and directed by Keisuke Yoshida. A crowdfunding page seeks 3 million yen (about US$20,000) over three months. Yumiko Kagami, owner of the S&M salon Eureka, joins as an advisor on the original manga and as S&M and costume supervisor. Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Beam ran the series from 2022 to 2024, and the fourth and final volume shipped in August 2024.
The film is set to arrive next fall, with Arai announcing the project on Thursday and a crowdfunding page attached to it. The campaign seeks 3 million yen (about US$20,000) and runs three months. Yoshida writes and directs; he previously directed the live-action adaptation of Arai's Itoshi no Irene, which opened in Japan in September 2018.
The story follows two women who enter the world of sadomasochism and become Mistresses: Natsuna, who wants to love freely, and Fuyumi, a bookworm who speaks only in mumbles. Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Beam published the manga between 2022 and 2024, with the fourth and final compiled volume shipped in August 2024.
