Why it matters
The sequel picks up Kaeru in his forties rather than resuming where the original left off, so the series' subject is now the strain of holding three jobs at once rather than the entry into the industry that the first manga covered.

The sequel to Manga Diary of a Male Porn Star is set in the Reiwa era and follows Kaeru, now in his forties, divorced and single, juggling three jobs: company employee, porn star and manga artist. The original manga ran from January 2020 and ended with its 12th compiled volume, which shipped on October 8.
The new series runs on the Kurage Bunch website, the same outlet that carried the original since January 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English license and releases the manga under its Ghost Ship imprint, with the fifth volume out in March 2024. Erefante writes under a pseudonym and describes the material as drawn from his own work as a male porn actor in over 250 adult videos. The Reiwa-hen version moves Kaeru into middle age: divorced, single, and dividing his time between an office job, adult film work and drawing the manga itself.
