Kaiji Gets New Live-Action Film in January 2027

TOHO Movies revealed a new live-action Kaiji film titled Kaiji: Jinsei Revenge Game, opening January 29, 2027. Tatsuya Fujiwara returns as Kaiji Itou, Tōya Satō returns to direct, and Yūgo Kanno composes the music. Masatoshi Yamaguchi wrote the script with assistance from creator Nobuyuki Fukumoto.

Tatsuya Fujiwara reprises his role as the titular gambler from the 2009 film Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler, the 2011 sequel Kaiji 2 - Jinsei Dakkai Game, and the 2020 film Kaiji Final Game. Tōya Satō, who directed all three prior live-action entries, returns to direct. Yūgo Kanno is composing the music. Masatoshi Yamaguchi wrote the script with assistance from Fukumoto. The original Kaiji manga, serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine from 1996 to 1999, has inspired two television anime series, a Chinese live-action film, and a reality game show. Fukumoto announced in 2024 that the manga will end in its next arc; the series has been on hiatus since June 2023.
