Kaiyodo Opens Pre-Orders For ARTPLA Mechagodzilla Kit
Kaiyodo is putting its ARTPLA line behind a Godzilla-series license and a named sculptor, selling a kit whose diorama base and swap-out head treat destruction as the product rather than an accessory.

Kaiyodo is taking pre-orders for an ARTPLA SCULPTURE WORKS plastic model kit of Mechagodzilla, based on the robot monster's appearance in the 1975 film Terror of Mechagodzilla. Sculptor Taro Murai built the piece around Mechagodzilla's attack on Yokosuka, and the kit ships with a diorama base of destroyed buildings and rubble. It is scheduled for release in January 2027 at 9,900 yen.
The kit stands about 190mm to the top of the head and is molded in silver and clear. Murai worked from the Yokosuka attack sequence, and the sculpt draws on sumo wrestlers, kabuki, and hannya masks as image sources. A parts swap exposes the internal electronic brain in the head, while the mouth, neck, wrists, and waist are movable and the Cross Attack Beam hatch can be fitted open or closed. As a plastic model, it requires assembly, with tools, adhesive, and paint sold separately.
