The TV anime adaptation of Kakunaru Ue wa will air starting January 2027. The announcement came with a first PV, character visuals, and additional main staff details. Murase Ayumu voices Uehara Yuki, a high school student who wants to be a manga artist, and Suzushiro Sayumi voices Miyamoto Niina, a gyaru classmate with the same ambition who proposes a fake romance.
The anime is based on the romantic comedy by Takahata Yumi (story) and Kaba Yuji (art), serialized in Young Animal and Young Animal Web. The story starts when Uehara Yuki, who loves 2D and wants to be a manga artist, has his manuscript read by Miyamoto Niina, a classmate he took for a sparkly gyaru, and finds out she has the same dream. The two begin a secret fake romance to draw the manga they want to make.
The first PV shows the two leads, and the production also announced monthly giveaways tied to the 27th, called Niina Day.
