Pixel Releases Hoggy Hue for Switch, a Return to Its Roots

The Switch release revises the shooting systems and reworks the sound while keeping a story that traces back to a dog named Hyuga, who came to live with Pixel's representative director Eishu Sasaki after the Fukushima evacuation.

Pixel Releases Hoggy Hue for Switch, a Return to Its Roots

Sendai developer Pixel released the side-scrolling shooter Hoggy Hue for Nintendo Switch on October 22. The game began as a 2018 PC and iOS title and became Hoggy Hue with Friends on Switch in 2021. This version adds a Burst Shot system, score-attack bonuses, two-player co-op, and a completely renewed soundtrack. It is priced at 3,850 yen standard, 6,050 yen limited, and 2,200 yen download.

The Switch version is not a straight port. Pixel added a Burst Shot system that temporarily strengthens attacks, plus Balloon Chain, Time Bonus, and Secret Bonus scoring elements. Difficulty and ship performance were readjusted, and recovery options after mistakes were expanded.

The story follows Hue, a pilot who fled from war, and Figaro. The town Eterday takes its name from an anagram of Iitate, and the characters are modeled on real animals. Pixel representative director Eishu Sasaki said he hopes the work prompts people to learn about the animals behind it.
