Why it matters

The character consistency rules and human supervision Puente built while producing the anime now carry over to static manga pages, with the company standardizing a process it worked out on its own series and stating AI use in the notes attached to each work.

The company also reworked episode 1 of its original anime Oiran Tensei into manga, producing 24 pages of illustrated storyboard and three sample manuscript pages. The workflow runs five steps, from reorganizing source material through panel layout, AI panel generation, programmatic page assembly and human revision. Puente is based in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture.

Oiran Tensei follows Kureha Tayu, an oiran in Edo's Yoshiwara who is poisoned, and Uesugi Akito, a modern-day student, whose consciousness overlaps hers. Puente CEO Kazuo Hoshina wrote the original work and script, and the anime runs 12 episodes. Six are out, with episode 7 and later scheduled for Fridays at 21:00. In the manga, AI image generation produces the art while the author sets the original work, panel layout, dialogue and direction. Bubbles, lettering and page composition are assembled by program under the author's instructions, and the notes attached to the work state that AI was used.
