Shinji Ohara Launches Moto-Shojo Tantei, Yamada Chizuko Manga

Shinji Ohara launched a new manga, Moto-Shojo Tantei, Yamada Chizuko: Saigo no Jiken kara Sujunengo, on Shogakukan's Yawaraka Spirits platform on September 30. It follows Kazuo Sasauchi, a young man who moves to Osaka for college and boards in an old western-style house owned by his great-aunt, the kimono-wearing, cigarette-smoking former girl-detective Chizuko Yamada, whose past returns to haunt her.

The new series puts Chizuko Yamada at the center of a household mystery. Kazuo Sasauchi arrives in Osaka for college and takes a room in an old western-style house, where his great-aunt lives in a kimono and smokes. She once worked as a girl-detective, and that past catches up with her.

Ohara's earlier manga, Chiko, Heiress of the Phantom Thief, ran five years and ended in 2007 at eight volumes. The spinoff Nijū-Mensō no Musume: Utsushiyo Yoru began in Monthly Comic Flapper in October 2007, and its 11th and final volume arrived in 2014. Both draw loosely on Ranpo Edogawa's Kaijin Nijū-Mensō novels.
