Square Enix Opens Pre-Orders for Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Card Box
Square Enix has opened pre-orders on Amazon.co.jp for Gallery Card Vol. 1 Final Fantasy "40th Anniversary" Collection (BOX), priced at 5,500 yen including tax and scheduled for release on January 31, 2027.

Why it matters
The set is the first volume in Square Enix's Gallery Card line, and it puts the company's own anniversary merchandising on the same NFC and hologram gimmicks that trading card releases increasingly use to hold value beyond the printed art.
The box holds 180 types of cards across 97 illustration types, including a newly drawn Y'shtola illustration from Final Fantasy XIV used as the package key visual, and an Ultimate Legend Rare card carrying a digital signature and serial number from Yoshitaka Amano.
The box carries a newly drawn Y'shtola illustration from Final Fantasy XIV as its package key visual, alongside cards drawn from characters and scenes across the series. Card types go beyond standard prints: a Phantom Legend Rare card uses hologram and printing technology, and a Harmonic Rare card has a built-in NFC tag for linking to music distribution sites on NFC-compatible devices. Square Enix notes the NFC feature may not work depending on the device or settings, and that some linked sites may require a contract or charge extra.
