Toshio Masuda, the director and screenwriter who supervised the original Space Battleship Yamato television series and went on to direct several of its theatrical films, died of old age on August 26. He was 98. Mainichi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun both reported the death. Masuda was born in Kobe in October 1927. He joined Nikkatsu in 1954, after working for Shintoho, and made his directorial debut in 1958 with Kokoro to Nikutai no Tabi. At Nikkatsu he directed Rusty Knife, Red Handkerchief, and Red Quay. He co-directed the Japanese sequences of the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora! and was nominated for the Best Director Award at the 4th and 13th Japan Academy Film Prizes, for The Battle of Port Arthur and Company Executives. In anime, he oversaw the scripts and supervised the 1974 Star Blazers television series, directed the 1977 Space Battleship Yamato compilation film, and worked as director and screenwriter on the 1978 film Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, the 1979 film Space Battleship Yamato: The New Voyage, and the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato.

Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed the main trailer and main visual for Nijiiro no Rinne, the seventh film in Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199, on Friday. Character designer Nobuteru Yuki drew the main visual. The film opens in theaters in Japan on October 30. The sixth film, Aoi Meikyu, opened on June 26. Crunchyroll streams the anime as Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199.

Bandai Namco Filmworks streamed a teaser for Nijiiro no Rinne, the seventh film in the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 project, using Akira Fuse's "Ai Yo Sono Hi Made" from the 1980 Be Forever Yamato film. The film opens in Japan on October 30.

Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed the seventh film in the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series is titled Nijiiro no Rinne (Rainbow-Colored Reincarnation) and opens in Japan on October 30. A teaser visual by Kia Asamiya was also unveiled. The sixth film, Aoi Meikyū (Blue Labyrinth), opened on June 26.

Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed the main trailer and visual for the sixth film in the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series, titled Aoi Meikyū (Blue Labyrinth). The film opens June 26. The trailer shows the Yamato appearing in present-day Tokyo as the crew passes through a space-time node to 2026. The anime runs seven films total.
