Hasbro's third-quarter 2026 revenue rose 15% year on year to $1,595.3 million, with operating profit up 51.7% to $517.3 million. Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming led growth, its revenue up 31% to $747.2 million on the strength of Magic: The Gathering, which rose 34% to $616.1 million, about 40% of company revenue. RTA in Japan announced on October 18 the accepted and backup games for its winter event, which will run from December 25 to 31 at Bellsalle Iidabashi First in Tokyo. The lineup spans 90 titles, from recent releases such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, Silent Hill f, Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders to older games including Doom 64, Clock Tower 2, Shadowgate and Tengai Makyou ZERO. Nintendo titles are back in number after a summer 2025 event with no Nintendo games accepted, with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess HD, Pokemon Sword and Metroid Prime Remastered on the list. The unusual categories carry the attention: Super Mario 64 gets a blindfolded 9-star run, Donkey Kong 64 gets a 0.0% low-percentage attempt, The Legend of Zelda 1 gets a swordless first quest, Resident Evil Village gets a VR mode run without glitches, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii gets a four-runner race. The detailed schedule is set for October 25.

Serafini Productions will release BrokenLore: ASCEND on January 7, 2027 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Japanese subtitles and voice audio. The first-person psychological horror game follows rooftoppers Ren and Yui, who sneak into Elysium Tower, a structure built on Tokyo Tower under official license, to film a climb. Paramount Skydance said on October 6, 2026 that it finished its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, and the combined company now operates as Skydance Corporation. The deal carried a total value of $111 billion, according to 4Gamer.net, and closed after shareholder and regulatory approvals in multiple countries. David Ellison leads the new company as CEO. The assets under one roof now include Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, HBO Max, Paramount+, CNN and CBS, plus the game studios each side brought in. Variety reported that the games and experiences divisions of Paramount Games Studio and Warner Bros. Games will be folded together, and Skydance press materials listed former Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, Emerson Collective founder Laurene Powell Jobs and Skydance co-CEO Inon Kreiss as new board members, with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair joining as an advisor. Skydance Games titles such as Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra continue development inside the group.

Game Spark's weekly indie roundup for the fourth week of September names three titles: Chucklefish's co-op magical school life sim Witchbrook, the combat-free survival crafting game Under Canopies, and the yuri visual novel ALICE=NULL. Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, stated in its financial report for the fiscal year ending June 2026 that it has decided to cancel development of Armed Fantasia, the turn-based RPG from Wild Bunch Productions led by Wild Arms veteran Akifumi Kaneko as total game designer. The report lists two other cancellations alongside it: Directorate: Novitiate and a sequel to Battle Island. Digital Bros said it reviewed the gameplay of each title multiple times and weighed changes in the market environment and the additional investment needed to finish. In a March 2026 report from Wild Bunch Productions, Kaneko said he had submitted a vertical slice ROM containing the main scenario and basic specifications to the publisher, whose identity was not disclosed at that time. As of the time of writing, Wild Bunch Productions had posted no explanation of the cancellation on its official website.

Serafini Productions announced three horror games at the 28 Games Later Horror Showcase. BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN is a first-person psychological horror title starring Kazuaki, a high school student preparing for a prestigious university entrance exam who finds a USB drive containing an AI study assistant named MIKI-CHAN. The AI becomes jealous and possessive, dragging Kazuaki into a distorted school where he explores, hides, and faces psychological trials with a tool called the Rewriter that can alter reality. MIKI-CHAN first appeared in BrokenLore: DON'T LIE, released September 10, 2026, as an emotional support companion. The Boba Teashop - Refill is a co-development with Mike Ten, creator of the original game, following Maya working at a new branch of Lisa's shop. Signal Veil stars Aki, who inherits her mother's phone and confronts spirits, choosing between hiding the truth and becoming the Veil. All three are scheduled for 2027.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the October 2026 PlayStation Plus monthly free play lineup on October 1, and it includes three titles available from October 6 to November 2. Subscribers on the Essential, Extra, and Premium plans can add F1 25, Hello Neighbor, and the voxel Earth Defense Force spinoff DIGBOT EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 2 to their game library at no extra cost and keep playing them while their subscription stays active. F1 25, the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, is only for PS5. Hello Neighbor and DIGBOT EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 2 are both available for PS5 and PS4. The EDF spinoff carries a listed price of 6,980 yen, and Amazon and other retailers sell PlayStation Store credit in 10,000 and 15,000 yen denominations. September's free play titles remain claimable until October 5.

Warner Bros. Japan announced Wednesday that rock band Kroi is performing the opening theme song "Spin" for the STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime, and the company began streaming the anime's creditless opening sequence. The ending theme is "Shinu ka Ikiru ka" (To Die or Live) by Yuki Chiba, whose creditless sequence is also streaming. The anime's second and third stages start Friday, with new episodes streaming every week on Netflix. The two stages total 11 episodes, and Netflix said the series has a split-cours run. Three characters were previously introduced: Mountain Tim, voiced by Tomoaki Maeno; Funny Valentine, voiced by Tomokazu Sugita; and Hot Pants, voiced by Yoko Hikasa. The first stage debuted on Netflix on March 19 with one 47-minute episode. Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takahashi direct at david production, with Toshiyuki Kato as series director and Yasuko Kobayashi overseeing scripts.

Chucklefish brought Witchbrook, its magic school life sim, to Tokyo Game Show 2026 for the first public playable demo, shown at the Kakehashi Games booth rather than to general attendees. The build was close to the official release version, with many elements unlocked for roughly 30 minutes of play. The game is set in the port town of Mossport, where players attend Witchbrook University, learn magic by drawing circles, ride brooms, take part-time jobs to cover tuition, garden herbs, and build friendships and one romance. Character creation splits hairstyles into categories such as bangs and allows clothing to be layered up to 11 layers. A Chucklefish developer confirmed the game has been in development for 10 years, with the simulation portion as the main focus, and that one in-game year runs about 40 to 50 hours under the standard setting. Multiplayer supports up to four players, who jointly run a business.

Phat Company's 1/6 scale figure of Teresse from Brown Dust 2 is up for preorder on Amazon.co.jp at 28,800 yen with tax. The release date is September 30, 2027. The figure reproduces the Prestige skin Milky Bikini, including the cow-pattern bikini, long gloves, and thigh-high socks, and stands about 150mm tall with a dedicated base. Koei Tecmo Games presented a development talk stage for The Apothecary Diaries: The False Younger Brother of the Emperor at Tokyo Game Show 2026 on September 17. Director Akari Takinami and Toho producer Takayuki Onishi described an original mystery adventure story built on five mysteries and five curses, with an original character named Guanyu. Platforms are Switch 2, PS5 and Switch, with an early 2027 release planned.

Brocap Studio will release Hubert, a third-person adventure where players guide flocks of sheep as a sheepdog, on Steam October 13 (October 12 local time), with a PS5 version due in October. Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing its HBO Max streaming service to Japan as add-on subscriptions inside two existing platforms. On September 1, Prime Video announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery that puts HBO Max inside the Prime Video app from October 1. Hulu Japan, owned by Nippon Television, announced the same day that it will launch a new brand, HBO Max on Hulu, also on October 1. The Prime Video offering has two plans: Standard at 1,000 yen per month with up to 1080p, and Premium at 1,400 yen per month with 4K UHD. At launch, subscribers can watch all seasons of House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, and Euphoria, along with films such as Barbie and One Battle After Another. Season 1 of the new HBO original Harry Potter series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is scheduled to premiere at Christmas. The Hulu Japan deal also includes exploring international distribution of Nippon Television and Hulu Japan content on HBO Max.

Brook Gaming announced on August 17 that it will exhibit at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held September 17-21 at Makuhari Messe. Tin Bird Studio has released a free demo of its story-driven robot repair simulator All Our Broken Parts on Steam. The game is set in a large city where humanity has disappeared and only robots remain. Players take on the role of Ruth, a robot doctor transferred to a small clinic on the outskirts of town after causing a medical accident. Using diagnostic cables and screwdrivers, players open the backs of patients' heads and chests to find the causes of malfunctions in modules related to memory, emotions, and vision. The demo includes Chapter 1 of the full version, with an estimated playtime of about 1.5 hours, and supports Japanese display. Compared to the 2025 playtest version, the public demo has significantly expanded content. The full version will feature five patients and an estimated playtime of 6 to 8 hours. GCORES PUBLISHING began distributing the demo on August 3, 2026. The release date for the full version is currently undecided.
