The game pits the Tokugawa shogunate, the faction backing Emperor Mutsuhito, and an organization called the East Nippon Company against each other, with yokai and advanced mechanical weapons in play. Pragier says the team chose 1868 because the era's changes mirror the game's core idea of different worlds colliding.
