NHK announced that Hayate Ichinose will play male lead Tatsuki Manabe in the live-action series of Yuki Kodama's Ao no Hana Utsuwa no Mori manga. Rena Matsui also stars. The series premieres on NHK's Yorudora block this fall. The manga ran in Shogakukan's Flowers from March 2018 to March 2022.

Its first production, the short film Foxing: Kitsuné-tsuki, premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. Haruto Hino will launch a new manga titled Mizuki no Koibito (Mizuki's Lover) on Shogakukan's Manga ONE service on August 30. The story follows two famous former child actors, Mii-chan and Kei-kun, who become lovers. Hino previously wrote Takunomi., which ran on Manga ONE from August 2015 to June 2018 and inspired a 12-episode anime in January 2018.

Marvelous and its subsidiary Honey∞Parade Games announced the title and a promotional video for their previously revealed new Senran Kagura smartphone game on Friday. The game is titled Shinobi Nexus: Senran Kagura and is scheduled to launch this year for iOS, Android, and PC via DMM Games. Pre-registration is currently open for DMM Games and the App Store, with Google Play registration expected in the coming days. The game is described as a "hyper shinobi battle" title featuring character designs by Nan Yaegashi. It will be free to play with optional paid in-game items. The story is set three years after the events of the previous mobile game, Shinobi Master Senran Kagura New Link, and introduces a new cast of shinobi girls at a new school. Shinobi Master Senran Kagura New Link launched in November 2017 and ended service in May 2025, transitioning to an offline version. Marvelous established Honey∞Parade Games in May 2017 to focus on the Senran Kagura series. The latest console entry in the franchise is the crossover with Compile Heart's Hyperdimension Neptunia, titled Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, which launched in October 2021 for PlayStation 4, followed by Switch and PC releases in 2022.

HONEY∞PARADE GAMES announced Shinobi NEXUS -Senran Kagura- on July 31, a new entry in the Senran Kagura series for iOS, Android, and PC. The game is set three years after Shinobi Master Senran Kagura NEW LINK and follows new shinobi girls designed by series illustrator Minami Yaegashi. It combines a command RPG with ninja arts in what the developer calls hyper shinobi battles, rendered in cel-look 3D. The usual dress-up, communication, and diorama features return in a mashed-up form. Pre-registration opened the same day on the App Store and DMM GAMES, with Google Play scheduled to start soon. A DMM GAMES campaign offers a total of 300,000 yen worth of DMM points via lottery, tied to a click-based mini-game about training shinobi girls. The announcement came during the HONEY∞PARADE GAMES Special Program 2026! 81 Day Special! stream. The official website, X account, and YouTube channel are now live, and a title announcement PV has been released. The game is scheduled for distribution within 2026.

Keigo Higashino, the award-winning mystery novelist behind The Devotion of Suspect X, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store, and The Camphorwood Custodian, died on July 23 due to colon cancer. He was 68. His family held a private funeral. Higashino debuted in 1985 and his works inspired numerous film, stage, and anime adaptations.

Bandai Spirits released five new Plano-saurus model kits from the Gachikoseibutsu-bu line on July 11, 2026. The lineup includes Tyrannosaurus 1915 and Spinosaurus 1915, which recreate outdated scientific reconstructions, plus a Pachyrhinosaurus with optional horn parts. Two Tyrannosaurus variants feature tropical rainforest and snowy region color schemes, the latter using a new Mineral Injection technology to simulate snow. All kits are snap-fit, no-tool, and include a display base.

The Mirmo de Pon! New manga concluded its run in Shogakukan's Ciao magazine on July 3. The magazine announced a second season and a side story for the October issue. The revival launched in March after a 21-year hiatus, following the original series that ran from 2001 to 2005 and inspired a 172-episode anime.

Fiok Lee's fantasy romantic comedy manga Seven Sleeping Beauties (Shichinin no Nemuri-hime) is receiving a television anime adaptation scheduled for a 2027 debut. The announcement was made on July 7, 2026, via a new website that also released an ultra teaser visual and a commemorative illustration by Lee. The anime will be produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ SMASH, with Mankyu directing. Keiichiro Ochi is handling series composition and scripts, and Masaru Koseki is designing the characters. The main cast features seven voice actresses portraying the sleeping princesses: Aya Yamane as Flora, Yoshino Aoyama as Kiara, Miku Itō as Claire, Ayasa Itō as Mia, Kana Ichinose as Charlotte, Fūka Izumi as Yūka, and Rina Kawaguchi as Eliza. The story follows Alec, the third prince of the Kingdom of Rudbeckia, who travels to the small kingdom of Amaryllis after a witch's curse puts its people to sleep. He must awaken the seven princesses with a kiss, but when they all wake up, the rest of the kingdom remains asleep, forcing the prince and princesses to live together while searching for a way to break the curse. The manga began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in March 2023, and its 12th compiled volume is set for release on July 16, 2026.

The television anime adaptation of Kyosuke Motomi's shojo manga Dengeki Daisy has revealed its two main cast members and a teaser promotional video. The video debuted at Anime Expo on Friday before being released online on Saturday. Yoshino Aoyama will voice Teru Kurebayashi, and Taku Yashiro will voice Tasuku Kurosaki. The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2027. Sota Ueno is directing the series at Studio DEEN, with Sawako Hirabayashi handling series scripts, Ayaka Murakami designing the characters, and Masaru Yokoyama composing the music. Crunchyroll will stream the anime. Motomi's original manga ran in Shogakukan's Monthly Betsucomi magazine from 2007 to 2013, spanning 16 compiled volumes. Viz Media's Shojo Beat imprint published the series in English. The story follows orphan Teru Kurebayashi, who finds comfort in messages from a mysterious figure named DAISY that she receives on her late brother's cell phone, while the enigmatic Tasuku Kurosaki keeps appearing to help her.

Aniplex announced on June 29 that the Switch 2 edition of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2" will launch on October 29, priced at 7,810 yen. The edition bundles the base game with the "Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1" Character Pass, which adds seven characters including Tanjiro Kamado (Infinity Castle Arc), Zenitsu Agatsuma (Infinity Castle Arc), Giyu Tomioka (Infinity Castle Arc), Shinobu Kocho (Infinity Castle Arc), Doma, Akaza (Infinity Castle Arc), and Kaigaku. The Switch 2 version supports high-resolution display and 60 FPS, with clearer character expressions and skill effects. It supports offline two-player versus battles, online versus battles with the existing Switch version (though those matches run at 30 FPS), and local wireless battles between Switch 2 consoles. A separate upgrade pass for Switch version owners will also be available on the same day for 550 yen, allowing save data transfer but not including the character pass. Store-specific purchase bonuses include a CyberConnect2-produced sticker and a ufotable reproduction art.

The television anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's manga MAO will enter its second cour on July 4, 2026, with the 14th episode on NHK General. Five new cast members were announced for characters debuting in the second half: Takuya Sato as Hakubi, an onmyoji of metal and Mao's former fellow disciple; Rie Kugimiya as Natsuno, an onmyoji of earth and former fellow disciple; Katsuyuki Konishi as Daigo, another earth onmyoji and former fellow disciple; Tasuku Kaito as Soma Kagami, the second son of the Kagami family; and Shino Shimoji as Kagari Hosho, a daughter of the Hosho family who uses curse needles. A new key visual was also released, depicting Mao, Nanoka, Otsuya, and the cat demon Hai Maru in the foreground, with stained glass imagery of the Heian-era disciples and other characters. The second cour's opening theme is "Bokura ga Uwagaki suru Sekai" by the boy band 20th Century, and a non-credit version of the opening video has been published online. The anime, produced by Sunrise, has been airing continuously since April 4 and is streamed on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in other regions.

The final chapter of the HiGH&LOW film series, "HiGH&LOW THE New World," was announced on June 24 at a 10th anniversary event in Tokyo. HIRO, the series' planner and producer, surprised attendees with a teaser video and confirmed the film will release in 2027. The story takes place several years after the 2017 film "HiGH&LOW THE MOVIE 3 / FINAL MISSION." Returning cast members include AKIRA as Kohaku, NAOTO as Jesse, and Alan Shirahama as Bernie, all reprising roles after nine years. Kazuma Kawamura and Hokuto Yoshino also join the cast. Directors Norihisa Hiranuma and Motoaki Kuba are helming the project. Hiranuma stated that the film will feature overseas artists and cast members. The teaser video, now on YouTube, shows hand-to-hand combat and armed groups, suggesting a harsher world. The series has drawn 6.21 million cumulative viewers and earned 8.9 billion yen at the box office. A live event, "HiGH&LOW 10th ANNIVERSARY FEVER," will be held at K-Arena Yokohama on September 22 and 23, featuring LDH artists including EXILE THE SECOND and THE RAMPAGE.

The manga adaptation of Meguru Seto's The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter light novel series is listed to end with its 17th compiled volume, scheduled to ship on August 6. Tomoyuki Hino's adaptation launched in 2018 on Kodansha's Suiyōbi no Sirius website. The light novel began serialization in 2017 and is still ongoing. The series also inspired an anime that streamed on Crunchyroll. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses both versions in English.

Sega announced on June 19 that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of "SHINOBI: Revenge's Slash" will be released on September 24, 2026. The standard edition costs 3,300 yen, while a Digital Deluxe Edition bundling all downloadable content, a digital art book, and soundtrack is priced at 4,400 yen. The physical edition uses a key card format requiring an internet connection and at least 12GB of free space. The Switch 2 version improves handheld resolution to 1080p for sharper visuals. Save data from the original Nintendo Switch version can be transferred, but there is no upgrade path; Switch owners must buy the new version separately. The game is a new entry in Sega's Shinobi series, developed jointly by Lizardcube and Sega. It follows ninja Joe Musashi as he seeks revenge against the armed organization ENE Corporation. The original Shinobi series debuted as an arcade game in 1987, and this is the first new entry in 14 years since 2011's "Shinobi 3D." The game was released for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One in August 2025, and was nominated for Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2025.

The new additions include Hiroshi Tsuchida, Ryōhei Shioguchi, Ryō Hirohashi, Yūki Kuwahara, Mari Hino, and Hiromichi Tezuka. The July issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine announced that Splatoon Raiders, a new single-player spinoff game in the Splatoon series, will receive a manga in the magazine's next issue on July 15. Sankichi Hinodeya, the writer and artist of the Splatoon and Splatoon 3: Splatlands manga, will also work on this manga. The game launches for the Switch 2 on July 23.

Venus in December is a completed two-volume BL series about an illustrator and a novelist. Paranormal Agent Adashino, a supernatural action manga, finished at three volumes. Wazawa also created The Morose Mononokean.

Viz Media announced a slate of manga and novel print releases for spring 2027, led by the physical English debut of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the sequel to Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen. The series, set 68 years after the Culling Game, follows siblings Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu as an alien race arrives on Earth. It features a story by Akutami and art by Yuji Iwasaki. The three-volume series concluded in Japan in May 2026. Other spring 2027 releases include a Detective Conan 3-in-1 edition with original Japanese names, a Slam Dunk Deluxe Edition with reordered story arcs and new covers, Takemitsu Zamurai by Taiyo Matsumoto and Issei Eifuku, Junji Ito: Dissection, a hardcover career retrospective, and the yuri romantic comedy #Gal x Gal Yuri. Shuzo Oshimi's autobiographical work Sins is scheduled for fall 2027. The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins will receive a digital release in spring 2027. The cast of "Osomatsu-san: Jinrui Kuzuka Keikaku!!!!!?" appeared at a first-day stage greeting on June 12 at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya in Tokyo. The live-action film, based on the anime by Fujio Akatsuka, follows the sextuplet Matsuno brothers as they confront a world that has begun praising their lazy lifestyle. Members of Ae! group-Seimei Yoshinori, Masaki Sawa, Ken Kojima, and Masaya Sano-star alongside Takuya Nishimura, Miho Watanabe, Yusuke Onuki, Naenano, and Iori Noguchi. Director Taisuke Kawamura revealed that the choreographer said the sextuplet actors could handle the most difficult dance, so he requested maximum difficulty choreography, which the cast learned in two hours. The actors described the dance as more challenging than Ae! group's own songs and said it took a full day to film, like a music video. Koji Mukai of Snow Man, who played Osomatsu in the 2022 film, appears as "Old Osomatsu" and added ad-libs that raised the cast's morale. The film was postponed by about five months before its release.

The TV anime adaptation of Asa Rokushima and Gyomu Mochi's original novel series, commonly shortened to Chi Fuyo, will air in October 2026 on the TV Tokyo network. The announcement came on June 10 alongside a teaser visual and teaser PV. Daiki Yamashita voices protagonist Rein Garland, an S-rank adventurer banished from his guild who transfers magical power into a copper sword to create a cheat weapon. Lynn voices Lily Flamberge, and Yoshino Aoyama voices Margaret Els. The supporting cast includes Miyu Tomita as assassin Mirabel, Megumi Han as guild master Elsie Zola, Konomi Kohara as receptionist Nina, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Hanbun, Makoto Furukawa as Cornelius, and Rie Shibata as the Assassin Mother. Shibata, known for her comedic roles, commented that she initially did not understand the script but grew to find her character endearing. The director is Osamu Honma, with series composition by Yoko Yoneyama and character design by Yuito Kiyosawa. Animation production is by P.A. Works.
