Gen Hoshino and Yui Aragaki announced on Tuesday the birth of their first child in a joint statement released through their respective agencies. The two co-starred as Hiramasa and Mikuri Tsuzaki in the 2016 live-action adaptation of Tsunami Umino's The Full-Time Wife Escapist manga, and reunited for a sequel special in January 2021. They announced their marriage in May 2020.

The official website for Atsushi Nishigori's original anime film Grotesqqque confirmed on Wednesday that the film will feature "TERASE," sung by Mika Ichinose, one of the music contributors for the "A(E)liens" story. Ken Kamikita wrote the lyrics, scored and arranged the music. The song is available on music services, and a collaboration music video with the film is streaming. The film opens in Japan on November 6.

The Fable anime's second season will premiere on NTV on January 9 at 12:55 a.m. JST, with six new cast members joining: Takanori Hoshino as Azami, Koichi Yamadera as Yamaoka, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Yukari, Taiten Kusunoki as Jiro, Satoshi Mikami as Koji Mizuno, and Seiyu Fujiwara as Suzumushi. Musashino Valley and BUDDICA will co-launch The Neutral Academia powered by Musashino Valley, a six-month executive development program, starting in November 2026. On October 7, HONEY∞PARADE GAMES posted a video announcing new information about Shinobi NEXUS -Senran Kagura-, a new app game in the Senran Kagura series. The footage, originally planned for a canceled Tokyo Game Show 2026 program, introduces all 15 shinobi girls from three academies and shows the main story's prologue, where Kohime, Inori, and Akira meet. A November 2026 program focused on gameplay is set to stream.

At the room6 booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026, The Travels of Fox and Frog: The Kotoro Oni of Adashino Island showed an updated demo build. The biggest change is a new opening set in a Showa-retro apartment, following the fox and frog from an unpaid electricity bill to a boat bound for Adashino Island. The build is slated for release in the first half of 2027.

Ilya Kuvshinov, the artist behind character designs for Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045, answered questions about his work on Compile Heart's game Villion:Code. He said his first sketch showed the protagonists lined up together, that some characters were approved on the spot while Chloe was redone from scratch, and that Anastasia went through the most revisions, becoming less symmetrical in haircut and costume.

Cass showed the 2D exploration action game Tokoyo Wataru no Shinobi at Osaka Indie Games Summit 2026, held at Congres Square Grand Green Osaka on October 3 and 4. The ninja apprentice Jin rescues Princess Sakura across Mizutani Province, using kunai stuck in walls and in other kunai as footholds. Stopping time lets thrown kunai hang midair as platforms. It is planned for PC in 2027.

Kadokawa announced Friday that Shinya Murata has launched a new manga, Shinoblade, with artist Daichi Matsuse in the Manga BAR e-manga magazine, run by Kadokawa and Kakao Piccoma. Murata writes and storyboards; Matsuse draws. The story follows the strongest female ninja, who lived in Hattori Hanzo's shadow, and wakes in another world at the moment she dies.

The Bless television anime added two cast members in a character promotional video on Thursday. Yoshino Aoyama voices Oroka Sumeragi and Momoka Terasawa voices Shitataka Sumeragi. The series premieres in January 2027 on Fuji TV's Noitamina block, with Shoutaro Kitamura directing at A-1 Pictures. Tomohiro Oono, Chiyuki Miura and Nobuhiko Okamoto are already set as Aia Udagawa, Jun Sumisaki and Ginga Yoyogi.

The television anime of Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game manga is getting a second season, the show's official website announced. The first season's 26th and final episode aired Monday, and the anime ran six months without a break on TV Tokyo and its affiliates after an April 6 premiere. Character designer Kei Tsuchiya drew a commemorative illustration. The official X account released interviews with four cast members, including the voice of Nao Kanzaki. All 26 first-season episodes will stream free in marathon form on ABEMA from 19:00 on October 10 and on Niconico Live Broadcasting from 19:00 on October 17, where episodes will run in two blocks. Yuzo Sato was chief director at Madhouse, Asami Kawano directed, and Tatsuhiko Urahata handled series scripts. Crunchyroll streams the anime worldwide outside Japan and China, and AMEDIATEKA distributes it in Russia. Broadcast timing for the second season is not announced.

The credits-free opening video for The Apothecary Diaries season 3 is out, set to Yorushika's opening theme "Kumo wo Nuke Kaze Shita e Watashi Dake." The season starts October 2 on Nippon TV's Friday Anime Night block. The Blu-ray series runs to four volumes from February 17, 2027, with the fourth volume carrying the August 17 stage reading as a bonus disc.

Advance cuts from Episode 49, titled "Locusts," of The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 have been released ahead of the show's October 2 premiere on Nippon TV's FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT slot. The episode follows Maomao and Zhaoyu after simmered locusts are served at the Verdigris House. A non-credit opening video for Yorushika's "Kumo wo Nuke Kashou e Watashi Dake" is also scheduled for October 2 at 18:00.

Blue Box Season 2 episode 26, titled Deja Vu, airs October 4, and advance cuts plus an interview with Yoshino Aoyama, who plays new character Yumeka Kido, have been published. Aoyama describes Yumeka as someone who holds negative feelings the story has not shown much before, and says she deliberately kept distance from co-star Reina Ueda, who plays Chinatsu, because of how the two characters relate.

Rias said the project has taken nearly ten years including the concept stage, spoke about the demo's added opening and the Kaeru Shuran meal scene, and said directing has been a new experience for them.

At Tokyo Game Show 2026, room6 showed a playable demo of Kitsune to Kaeru no Tabi: Adashino-jima no Kotoro Oni, the Nintendo Switch adventure game due in the first half of 2027. The updated demo adds a prologue showing how the fox girl and her frog companion reach Adashino Island, starting in the fox's apartment and running through a convenience store errand, a shrine theft, a culvert, and a boat ride.

Level-5 president Akihiro Hino said on his own X account that an AI-generated image was used for the company's Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth concept art. He argued that making concept CG or AI preview images before an event is common practice at most companies, and said the actual booth is designed by humans and its modeling is carefully handmade. The booth runs September 17 to September 21.

Level 5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino posted a statement on his X account on September 12 explaining and apologizing for the use of AI in footage shown during the online presentation LEVEL5 VISION 2026 II Dream, which streamed on September 10. Hino wrote that he incorporated cutting-edge AI, including processing that doubled as an experiment, out of a desire to make the presentation flashy, and apologized to users who felt uncomfortable. He said scenarios, character designs, and basic world-building for Level 5 titles are all created by human hands, and that AI is mainly used to digitize human-made assets such as polygon models. He stated that cheap AI output data will not be included in the games that are released. Hino also said the company is testing ways to shorten development of major titles from five years to two. Criticism came from users in Japan and overseas, and some in Japan noted that Yo-kai Watch 2: Hadou footage differed in details such as character faces from what appeared in the previous day's Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9.

HORI announced on September 10 that it will commercialize a full-scale driving school simulator developed with Hino Motors, and will exhibit it at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from September 17 to 21. Two versions are planned: JAPAN DRIVER TRAINING SIMULATOR for ordinary automobiles and JAPAN TRUCK DRIVING SIMULATOR for large vehicles. The vehicles covered run from standard cars to medium 4-ton trucks, 10-ton trucks, towing vehicles, and buses. Hino Motors supplied vehicle data and engine sound sampling for the 3DCG reproduction of training vehicles. The simulator reproduces left-side driving practice based on Japanese traffic rules, and the course of the practical skills contest for truck drivers. HORI says it planned the product in response to the expansion of the specified skilled foreign worker program into the automobile transportation field. Pricing has not been announced.

SSS-Class Hunter Who Dies to Live, a Korean novel and SMARTOON serialized on Piccoma since 2022, is getting a TV anime in January 2027. Takeo Otsuka voices Kim Kongja and Satoshi Hino voices the Sword Emperor. Hiroaki Sakurai directs, Sayuri Oba writes the script, Takahiro Yoshimatsu designs characters, and the studio fu handles animation. A teaser visual and teaser PV are out.

The TV anime adaptation of Reno Lemaire's French manga "Dreamland" has added three new cast members ahead of its October 17 premiere. Takuya Eguchi will voice Savana, a foul-mouthed, quick-tempered charismatic fighter; Hiroyuki Yoshino plays Saba, an easygoing art college student; and Masahiko Tanaka voices Yung, a mysterious old man who knows Dreamland's secrets. The series follows Terrence, a boy who lost his mother in a fire and, after overcoming his fear of fire within a nightmare, awakens as a Dreamer who travels the dream world. The original manga is a cult favorite in France with over 800,000 copies in print. The anime will air in the ANiMAZiNG!!! slot on ABC TV and TV Asahi affiliates across 24 stations nationwide. Production is handled by Ellipse and La Chouette Compagnie, with directors Juan Pablo Machado and Joe Celse at the helm. The Japanese localization features sound direction by Soichiro Kubo and production by Tohokushinsha and Amuse Creative Studio.

Shinomiya Shiori, the yellow-green member and self-styled comedy act of idol group Hare to Hare!, held a release event August 25 at Sofmap AKIBA Amusement Hall for her first DVD I.D (Spice Visual, 120 minutes, 4620 yen). The disc is part of the I.D series for active idols. Shot in Miyakojima, it leans on a girlfriend feel, from a polka dot bikini beach scene to a black knit removal that shows purple lingerie.

Mizuki Hoshino announced Friday that Fukakōryoku no I Love You will go on hiatus due to the creator's poor health. Hoshino said the manga's return will be announced at a later date. The series has run in Shueisha's Margaret magazine since August 2023, and Shueisha published the ninth compiled volume on June 25. The story follows first-year high school student Sena Kodama and her senior Wataya.

Wandering Wonder Studio, the solo developer behind Puzzle Battler! Mirai and Mori Shooter! Nozomi, opened the Steam page for Kyoshin no Shinogi on September 3. The side-scrolling action game has a miko gyaru strengthen an ally giant god and fight enemy giant gods. It targets a 2027 PC release with Japanese full voice and subtitles, and controller play is recommended.

Netflix announced on September 1 that its original series Fujiyama Boy will premiere worldwide in January 2027. Wataru Ichinose stars as Kakuhata Kanta, a man who has been a shut-in for eight years and has zero romantic experience. Suzu Hirose plays Hamamiya Mami, Japan's top idol, whom Kanta vows to marry after his dying mother tells him she dreamed of the union. The story follows Kanta's sudden declaration that he will marry the idol and his subsequent struggle to make that happen. Ichinose, who previously starred in the Netflix series Sanctuary, said he was surprised to hear Netflix wanted him for a love story and that he felt obligated to give his all since Netflix changed his life. Hirose described the project as quite funky and said she wondered why she was cast, but praised the explosive strength of her character. The series is directed by Yu Irie, known for the SR Saitama no Rappers films and An no Koto, with scripts by Shigeki Kaneko, who won the 38th Kuniko Mukoda Award for Ore no Hanashi wa Nagai. Executive producer Yuta Fukui said the story is about a man who recklessly pursues a love everyone calls impossible.

Toei Games will exhibit for the first time at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21. The booth will feature special trial versions of HINO, KILLA, and DEBUG NEPHEMEE. DEBUG NEPHEMEE hits Steam on September 10, HINO on September 17, while KILLA is available only at the venue. The historical mystery epic is set in Ise Province during Japan's Asuka period and centers on an imperial princess.

NHK announced that Hayate Ichinose will play male lead Tatsuki Manabe in the live-action series of Yuki Kodama's Ao no Hana Utsuwa no Mori manga. Rena Matsui also stars. The series premieres on NHK's Yorudora block this fall. The manga ran in Shogakukan's Flowers from March 2018 to March 2022.

Toei Animation established Eterna Animation in 2025 as an in-house production brand for original IP development. Its first production, the short film Foxing: Kitsuné-tsuki, premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. Haruto Hino will launch a new manga titled Mizuki no Koibito (Mizuki's Lover) on Shogakukan's Manga ONE service on August 30. The story follows two famous former child actors, Mii-chan and Kei-kun, who become lovers. Hino previously wrote Takunomi., which ran on Manga ONE from August 2015 to June 2018 and inspired a 12-episode anime in January 2018.

Marvelous and its subsidiary Honey∞Parade Games announced the title and a promotional video for their previously revealed new Senran Kagura smartphone game on Friday. The game is titled Shinobi Nexus: Senran Kagura and is scheduled to launch this year for iOS, Android, and PC via DMM Games. Pre-registration is currently open for DMM Games and the App Store, with Google Play registration expected in the coming days. The game is described as a "hyper shinobi battle" title featuring character designs by Nan Yaegashi. It will be free to play with optional paid in-game items. The story is set three years after the events of the previous mobile game, Shinobi Master Senran Kagura New Link, and introduces a new cast of shinobi girls at a new school. Shinobi Master Senran Kagura New Link launched in November 2017 and ended service in May 2025, transitioning to an offline version. Marvelous established Honey∞Parade Games in May 2017 to focus on the Senran Kagura series. The latest console entry in the franchise is the crossover with Compile Heart's Hyperdimension Neptunia, titled Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, which launched in October 2021 for PlayStation 4, followed by Switch and PC releases in 2022.

HONEY∞PARADE GAMES announced Shinobi NEXUS -Senran Kagura- on July 31, a new entry in the Senran Kagura series for iOS, Android, and PC. The game is set three years after Shinobi Master Senran Kagura NEW LINK and follows new shinobi girls designed by series illustrator Minami Yaegashi. It combines a command RPG with ninja arts in what the developer calls hyper shinobi battles, rendered in cel-look 3D. The usual dress-up, communication, and diorama features return in a mashed-up form. Pre-registration opened the same day on the App Store and DMM GAMES, with Google Play scheduled to start soon. A DMM GAMES campaign offers a total of 300,000 yen worth of DMM points via lottery, tied to a click-based mini-game about training shinobi girls. The announcement came during the HONEY∞PARADE GAMES Special Program 2026! 81 Day Special! stream. The official website, X account, and YouTube channel are now live, and a title announcement PV has been released. The game is scheduled for distribution within 2026.
