S.H.Figuarts Yuji Itadori 120% Potential Figure Announced, Sukuna Rerelease Set

Bandai Spirits has announced a new S.H.Figuarts action figure of Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen, depicting him at 120% of his latent potential during the Shibuya Incident arc. The figure, priced at 8,250 yen, includes a newly sculpted head, interchangeable hair parts, and a Black Flash effect piece. Pre-orders open June 1, 2026, with a November 2026 release. Alongside this, the company is rereleasing the S.H.Figuarts Sukuna figure, originally sold in April 2023, also for 8,250 yen. The Sukuna rerelease pre-orders begin the same day, with a December 2026 ship date. The Sukuna figure comes with a bonus face part compatible with the separately sold standard S.H.Figuarts Yuji Itadori. Both figures stand approximately 150mm tall and are made of PVC and ABS. The announcement comes as the Jujutsu Kaisen anime's third season, the Culling Game arc, premiered on January 8, 2026.

Anime Producers Build In-House Film Distribution Systems

Anime production companies are moving away from relying on legacy theatrical distributors like Toho, Shochiku, and Toei, instead forming their own domestic film distribution systems to retain a larger share of box office earnings. This week, Sony-owned Aniplex and publishing giant Kadokawa announced a joint venture called Animec for anime film distribution and promotion. The following day, Bandai Namco Filmworks established a new film distribution division, building on early success with the short film "Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express," which opened in fourth place at the Japanese box office last month despite screening in only 73 theaters and has earned over ¥400 million (US$2.5 million) domestically. Bandai Namco Filmworks also plans to use its distribution expertise to redistribute older films in its catalog. The shift comes as anime's fourteen highest-grossing films in 2025 earned a cumulative ¥90.1 billion (US$573 million) at the Japanese box office, with at least half of that going to distributors.

Netflix Details Anime Partnership With Chainsaw Man Studio MAPPA

Netflix has shared new details about its recently announced strategic partnership with MAPPA, the Tokyo-based anime studio behind *Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc* and *Jujutsu Kaisen*. During a content presentation in Tokyo on Tuesday, Netflix's Kaata Sakamoto, head of content for the streamer in Japan, said multiple projects are already underway, spanning story development through merchandise. The partnership, first unveiled on Jan. 21, is designed to operate outside the traditional production committee system that typically governs Japan's anime industry. Sources close to the deal told The Hollywood Reporter that bypassing the committee model, where multiple companies pool funds to spread risk, will give MAPPA greater creative control over its titles while also giving Netflix a larger voice in the process. MAPPA president and CEO Manabu Otsuka, speaking when the partnership was announced, emphasized the importance of independence for Japanese animation studios as they court global audiences. Netflix framed the deal as a natural next step, noting that more than half of its members now watch anime and that overall anime viewership on the service has tripled over the past five years.

Jujutsu Kaisen, Gachiakuta Manga Rank on NYT May Bestseller List

The New York Times released its monthly Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list for early May, featuring multiple volumes of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen and the first volume of Kei Urana's Gachiakuta. Jujutsu Kaisen volume 29 ranked at #6, followed by Gachiakuta volume 1 at #9, Jujutsu Kaisen volume 1 at #10, volume 28 at #11, and volume 26 at #15.
