The staff for the second season of The Detective Is Already Dead, based on the light novel series by Nigoju and Umibozu, revealed a third promotional video, new cast members, and an October 7 premiere on Friday. Nintendo added three Famicom titles to its Nintendo Classics service on September 2: Ikari, Dragon Buster, and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. All three are available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers at no additional cost and run on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
Ikari is the 1986 SNK action shooter in which players control Ralph and Clark as they infiltrate an enemy base, with limited ammunition that must be replenished from drops. Dragon Buster, released by Namco in 1987, is a side-view action adventure starring swordsman Clovis on a quest to rescue Princess Celia from a dragon. Ninja Gaiden III, Tecmo's 1991 side-scrolling action game, follows Ryu Hayabusa after he is framed for the murder of Irene Lew.
The addition completes the Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the service, since the first two games were already available. The lineup drew strong reaction on X, where Dragon Buster trended and players welcomed the return of the three titles.

Pony Canyon announced on Friday that a new original television anime series, Maiden Blood, will debut in 2027. The dark fantasy action series is created by director Seiji Kishi, scriptwriter Makoto Uezu, and Pony Canyon, with Polygon Pictures handling animation production. Kishi directs the anime, and Uezu oversees series scripts. The original character designs are by illustrator LAM, known for Witch and Hound and takt op. Destiny. The main voice cast includes Iori Saeki as Eva and Yukari Anzai as Epica. The story is set in a world where the end-of-days war between good and evil was overturned, and eight billion humans were sacrificed to an Evil God. In this world, human blood is currency, fuel, and a weapon. Mages devised a forbidden ritual that transforms a girl's blood into a blade capable of destroying demons. The younger sister, Epica, is the strongest blood warrior, but her soul was stolen. The elder sister, Eva, cannot walk, yet only her blood can awaken Epica's power. Composers Keiichi Okabe, Kuniyuki Takahashi, and Taichi Jōraku provide the music. Pony Canyon produces the music with cooperation from MONACA. International release details will be announced later.

The staff for the Star Detective Precure! film announced the cast for three film-original characters in a new video on Sunday. Akari Kito voices Karin, a 14-year-old girl who holds the key to the story. Nintendo released a promotional video on July 24 for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, detailing new features ahead of its July 30 digital release. The upgrade adds new design costumes for the heroines Homura (Pyra) and Hikari (Mythra), created by character designer Masatsugu Saito. The costumes feature starry sky motifs and are visible in both gameplay and event scenes. A new quest type called Mercenary Group Action expands on the existing idle Mercenary Group system, letting players directly control up to six Blades in real-time combat, switching between them and using special arts. The edition also introduces M.O.M.O. (voiced by Rumi Shishido), a rare Blade from the Xenosaga series. M.O.M.O. can switch between light and dark attributes via Actual Mode and Imaginary Mode, and serves a healing role. The download version and upgrade pass cost 9,778 yen and 1,000 yen respectively, with the physical version following on October 1. Manga creator Masashi Ueda ended Otoboke Buchō Dairi and Kariage-kun on Tuesday, and Shin Furiten-kun will conclude on July 10. Kariage-kun, which began in 1980, inspired a 1989 TV anime and a 2023 live-action series. Ueda said he wanted to end all three at once and plans to continue his newspaper comic Kobo-chan.

The anime adaptation of Sumiko Arai's manga The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All will premiere in January 2027, as revealed in a teaser trailer unveiled at Anime Expo 2026. CloverWorks is producing the series, with Masashi Ishihama directing. The cast includes Akari Kitō as Aya Ōsawa and Mariya Ise as Mitsuki Koga. Rino Yamazaki handles series composition, and Kanna Hirayama is the character designer. The opening theme song is the 1991 Nirvana track "Breed." Crunchyroll will stream the anime. The manga follows high schooler Aya, who develops a crush on a cool CD shop employee, unaware that the employee is actually her quiet female classmate Mitsuki. The official website and social media accounts for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 announced the Japanese and English voice casts on Tuesday. Kadokawa announced that Yūji Nishimura's web manga Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Space Academy will receive an anime film titled Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase! Kadokawa announced on June 12 that the television anime adaptation of Kureha's light novel series Bride of the Barrier Master will premiere in January 2027. The announcement came with a teaser visual, a teaser video, and the main cast. Akari Kitō will voice Hana Ichise, and Kikunosuke Toya will voice Saku Ichinomiya. Tōru Kitahata is directing the series at studio TROYCA. Minami Murayama is designing the characters, and Yūko Kakihara is handling series scripts. The music is composed by Yukari Hashimoto, Ruka Kawada, and R.O.N. The light novels, published by Kadokawa since December 2021 with illustrations by Bodax, have over 2.5 million copies in circulation. The seventh volume is due on June 16. The fifth stage adaptation of Happy Elements KAKARIA STUDIO's mobile RPG Helios Rising Heroes, titled Action Stage "Helios Rising Heroes" -THE EAST-, is currently running in Tokyo and Osaka. The Tokyo performances at Tennozu Galaxy Theater run through January 25, and the Osaka shows at Cool Japan Park Osaka WW Hall run from January 31 to February 1. The production is split into two parts: a drama segment and a live concert. The drama follows East Sector rookie Gray (played by Kenta Matsui) as he struggles with his mentor Ash's harsh training and a past incident where a second personality emerged and attacked Ash. The live portion features eight original songs, including a Valentine's Day-themed daily performance piece called "Thank you my sweet Heart" where the cast delivers sweet lines. A Blu-ray release is scheduled for July 22, 2026, with a limited edition including extra discs and photo sets available for pre-order until March 16. DMM TV is streaming select performances live and on demand.

Manga Up! Global launched Karino Takatsu's Owl Night manga in English on Friday. The story follows college student Eichi Usaki who stumbles into a mysterious club called Owl Night. Takatsu debuted the manga in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan in May 2021, and the sixth compiled volume shipped in August 2025.
