Universal Pictures has signed a deal to adapt 10 Atari games into films, including Breakout and Pong. Guymon Casady will produce, while Matt Reilly and Carl Hampe will write the script and produce. Atari CEO Wade Rosen expressed excitement about bringing the brand to new media.
Balor Games announced on July 25, 2026, that Goose Byte's cooperative river descent action game Sponge Break will launch on Steam on July 31 Japan time. The game supports up to four players who control sponges escaping the tyranny of the kitchen sink, riding a raft down dangerous rapids. Steering mistakes can capsize the raft, washing away cargo and causing the raft to crumble under damage. Players use a rubber cup that doubles as a grappling hook to pull teammates back to the raft or drag the raft on land. The journey passes through sewers and abandoned facilities, with puzzles, environmental hazards, and beaver attacks that can break the raft. Players can repel beavers by punching them and find hidden supply caches. The game features proximity voice chat for coordination, and it can be played solo, with multiplayer allowing mid-game joins. Customization includes over 100 types of decorations, such as eyes, eyebrows, mouths, hats, floaties, and rubber cups, which can be freely combined. The game supports Japanese. A PV shows a jump pad that launches players onto rails, letting the raft ride like a roller coaster.
Developer Goose Byte announced Sponge Break, a whitewater rafting game for up to four players on PC via Steam. Players control sponges escaping a kitchen sink, rafting through sewers and rivers with physics-based mechanics. Hazards include saws, barbed wire, and beavers. Playtest sign-ups are open now.
