Modder PureDark, known for upscaling and frame generation mods, released a test video showing NVIDIA's pre-release DLSS 5 neural rendering running in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The roughly five-minute video, focusing on the character creation screen, demonstrates character faces shifting to a more realistic representation with improved expressions and textures. A second video on lighting and shadows was also released, depicting a more realistic world, indicating the test scope is expanding. DLSS 5, announced in March 2026, is a real-time neural rendering technology that uses AI to recognize skin, hair, fabric, and lighting, making footage rendered with traditional methods more realistic. NVIDIA plans an official release in fall 2026. Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered have been announced as supported, but official Skyrim support is unconfirmed. Since its announcement, DLSS 5 has drawn criticism for significantly altering characters' facial features. Bethesda has said the art team will continue adjustments and that the effect remains under artists' control and optional for players. PureDark has not disclosed the tools, environment, or installation method, nor distributed a public mod, so this remains a technical experiment.

To mark the release of 'Trails in the Sky the 1st', the full remake of 'The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC', Fulton Japan is selling a pocket watch modeled on the game's Tactical Orbment. Pre-orders open September 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM on the Fulton Japan official online store. The lineup has three models, each tied to a main character: Estelle, Joshua, and Scherazard. Every model embeds that character's distinct quartz layout and orbment circuit into the watch face. The circuit glows in the dark after absorbing light, evoking the moment orbment energy flows through the device. The hunter case carries the Bracer Guild emblem as a three-dimensional metal engraving, finished with an antique brown tone and aging treatment meant to recall a bracer's worn gear. Each model is limited to 2,025 units, with edition numbers 1 to 2025 engraved on the case back; numbers are assigned randomly and cannot be chosen. The package includes a special watch case and an original guarantee card featuring each character's illustration. The watch uses a MIYOTA 2035 quartz movement, measures roughly 60mm by 46mm by 14mm, weighs about 60g, and costs 16,500 yen including tax. Release is scheduled for mid-February 2027.

thatgamecompany, the studio behind Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, announced on August 25, 2026 that it has established a new publishing label called thatgamepublisher. The label targets ambitious, emotionally resonant games and supports developers who use interactivity to expand the emotional range games can convey. According to an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the success of Sky, particularly in the Chinese region, generated surplus funds that enabled the creation of the division. Co-founder Jenova Chen said indie studios with hit titles naturally want to invest in areas they understand, citing examples like Pocketpair and its Palworld publishing arm. thatgamepublisher will offer more than funding, including production planning, platform and launch strategy, marketing, community building, and long-term IP development. The division also plans to invest in larger AA-scale projects, a departure from typical indie publishers that invest under $1 million. Publishing contracts for several titles were already signed at the time of the interview, though details were not disclosed. The company's official X account invited developers of any team size, development stage, or genre to apply.

Players place LEGO block characters, buildings, and flora and fauna to build their own cities at a relaxed pace, from a grand metropolis to fine details. The announcement trailer showed LEGO-built cities with police and firefighters active in the scenes, and events such as fires are likely to occur. LEGO Skylines is planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. A release date has not been set. The game's connection to Cities: Skylines is notable because Iceflake Studios currently works on Cities: Skylines II, which has led to speculation that LEGO Skylines could be a LEGO version of the established city-builder series.

As the second half of 2026 approaches, Japanese gaming outlets Inside and Game Spark have each published a list of five recommended 'prep games' to play this summer before the release of highly anticipated sequels and new titles. Among the selections, 'Trails in the Sky the 2nd', a full remake sequel to 'Trails in the Sky the 1st', is highlighted for its continuous story and linked bonuses with the previous game. The article notes that the 'Trails in the Sky' series is the origin of the entire 'Trails' franchise, making it essential for series newcomers. Another pick is 'Fire Emblem: Three Houses', released in 2019, which the sources suggest may share a worldview connection with the upcoming 'Fire Emblem: Ban Shihong', citing a shared place name and a reminiscent character.
