Shopify Absorbs Tailwind Labs As Framework Developer Winds Down Commercial Line
Adam Wathan, founder of Tailwind Labs, announced on September 9, 2026 that the company is joining Shopify. Tailwind CSS, which Wathan began developing nine years ago, is installed more than 110 million times per week and is used by ChatGPT, X, Cloudflare, Reddit and Shopify. Wathan said the framework and other open-source projects stay under the MIT license, but new commercial customer sign-ups will end.
