Tokyo Artisan Intelligence raised 1.27 billion yen in a Series C first close through a third-party allotment led by Sumitomo Mitsui Marine Capital, with Wataque Holdings, Tokyo Keiki, Tokyo Keiki Rail Tec, and ADT as subscribers and a loan from Mizuho Bank. The Yokohama company will put the money into its AI solutions business, built on railway and local government deployments, and its Manta Ray AI semiconductor chip.
The lead investor is Sumitomo Mitsui Marine Capital, and the subscribers include Wataque Holdings, Tokyo Keiki, Tokyo Keiki Rail Tec, and ADT. Mizuho Bank provided a loan alongside the equity.
TAI, based in Yokohama and led by president and CTO Hiroki Nakahara, traces its work to AI and semiconductor research from Tohoku University. In July 2026 it finished evaluating its test chip StingRay, which started the Manta Ray project aimed at mass production of a next-generation AI semiconductor chip. In June it signed a Strategic Collaboration Framework Agreement with Malaysian semiconductor company Oppstar.
