Toybox's Yasuhiro Wada Details Fishing RPG Boku To Tsuri Nikki

Wada's pitch rests on a market argument, not a design one: Imagineer noticed fishing games had left home consoles and bet that a proper one could find demand, which is why the project narrowed its scope and leaned on world and characters instead of licensed gear.

Toybox's Yasuhiro Wada Details Fishing RPG Boku To Tsuri Nikki

Imagineer will release the fishing action RPG Boku to Tsuri Nikki, developed by Yasuhiro Wada's studio Toybox, for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2026. In a Game Spark interview, Wada says the game asks players to read where fish live and cast without relying on visible fish shadows, with over 100 fish species in rivers and lakes.

The interview pairs Wada with Katsuaki Kato, the editor known as Bakataru Kato, for a conversation the two describe as their first reunion in five or six years, since the pandemic interrupted their contact. Wada traces the project's origin to Imagineer's wish to take on a new challenge after a stretch without game-like games. An early idea was a Gran Turismo-style fishing game built around real fishing gear from around the world, which he says would have cost too much time and money and would not have matched Imagineer's aim of expanding the market.
