Twin Engine and Bandai Partner for Manga, Anime, and Merchandise

The partnership pairs a production company with a merchandiser from the outset, so the original manga and anime are planned alongside licensed toys and goods rather than after the fact.

Twin Engine and Bandai Partner for Manga, Anime, and Merchandise

Anime planning and production company Twin Engine and toy and merchandising company Bandai announced a strategic partnership on Wednesday. The two companies plan to produce at least one joint project involving original manga, animated adaptation, and licensed merchandise. Twin Engine will handle animation planning and production, while Bandai will manage product development and licensing. The companies aim to invest up to 4 billion yen (about US$25.35 million).

Twin Engine, the company behind productions such as Vinland Saga, Dororo, and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, will take on planning, production, advertising, and distribution for the animation portion. Bandai will handle planning, product development, marketing, licensing, and maximizing the value of the intellectual property overall.

The companies said they will reveal more details soon. Twin Engine was founded in 2014 by representative director Koji Yamamoto and has since built a group of studios under its EOTA system, including BUG FILMS, Scooter Films, Studio Chromato, Crew-Cell, and most recently Studio NuT.
