Valve Ends Valve Index Production, Sets Remaining Stock At 20 Percent Off

With the Steam Frame positioned as the company's current VR hardware, Valve is clearing the Index line on a while-supplies-last basis rather than maintaining a two-headset lineup, and Japanese buyers face a restock question Valve has not answered.

Valve Ends Valve Index Production, Sets Remaining Stock At 20 Percent Off

Valve announced on October 14 that production of the Valve Index VR headset has ended. Remaining stock of headsets, controllers, and accessories is being sold at reduced prices in overseas markets, with the headset down 20 percent to $399.20 from its $499 launch price. Replacement controllers and tethers are also discounted. Japanese sales go through distributor KOMODO, where Index products are sold out.

The price cuts apply to headsets, replacement controllers, and replacement tethers, all reduced 20 percent while stock lasts. Base stations, which the headset needs for tracking, appear to have already ended sales, and the Index cannot be used without them.

The discounts cover overseas markets where devices are bought directly from Steam. The headset cannot be purchased from within Japan, where KOMODO handles distribution and Index products are sold out, with no word on restocking. Steam and SteamVR support continues.
