Warframe Opens Player Path to the Tau System on October 16
Warframe has kept its story inside the solar system for its entire run, so moving the Tenno toward the Tau System is the first change to the game's geography at this scale, and the operation is being staged as a one-time event rather than a recurring update.

Digital Extremes will launch Operation: The Road to Tau on October 16, an event that moves Warframe beyond the Earth, Mars, and Moon settings players have traveled until now. The development team calls it the biggest step in the game's history and frames it as a once-in-a-lifetime operation. Rebecca Ford, the voice of Lotus and Warframe's creative director, discussed the event.
The event begins October 16 and carries the condition of being held once. Until now the game's adventure has stayed within the solar system, with Earth, Mars, and the Moon among its locations, as the Tenno work to learn their own identity.
Rebecca Ford has voiced Lotus since before the studio could afford professional voice actors, when she had just joined Digital Extremes as an intern. She became creative director in 2022 and still appears on official livestreams to answer player questions and present new content. Players call her Space Mom because Lotus watches over the Tenno as her own children.
